This pocket in Southeast Asia is a small island, but it packs a hearty punch for the average traveler. Parks, shopping districts, beaches, ethnic communities and even a Universal Studios are just a few of the things you’ll find waiting in Singapore.

One of Singapore’s most tempting draws is its thriving foodie culture. A trip could revolve around eating at hawker food stalls around the island alone. And in the riverside Clarke Quay, the deceptively mild Chilli Crab is served up by the plateful.

You could spend your days in Singapore shopping along the upscale Orchard Road or exploring the ethnic neighborhoods of Chinatown and Little India. Another must-visit is the Singapore Zoo, an impressive rainforest-themed zoo where you can feed wallabies and giraffes or watch as rainforest natives defend their home against a zealous developer during the “Rainforest Fights back” show.
